Emily's Fans and Fangoria Readers Know the Score...
Emily was presented with the Fangoria Chainsaw Award for Best Actress for her role in Ginger Snaps: Unleashed during the magazine's recent East Coast Weekend of Horrors convention. Winners were determined by fan voting submitted online and by mail. Emily's receipt of this award is a testament not only to her outstanding performance in the genre-defining, metaphoric Ginger Snaps trilogy, but also to the loyal and determined support of her fanbase.
Of the five nominees in this category, Emily was the only one whose film did not have the benefit of U.S. theatrical distribution: Bryce Dallas Howard was showcased in The Village, a major release from The Sixth Sense director M. Night Shyamalan that took in over $114 million domestically; Sarah Polley enjoyed a lead role in a high-profile remake of George A. Romero's classic Dawn of the Dead; and Jennifer Tilly and Blanchard Ryan were nominated for their parts in Seed of Chucky and Open Water, respectively, which had the luxury of stateside press and distribution. But despite the lack of visibility of Ginger Snaps: Unleashed, viewers saw fit to recognize Emily's performance as haunted but stalwart heroine Bridget Fitzgerald, a role that has resonated with both fans and critics alike.
In addition to the Best Actress nod, Emily was also inducted into Fangoria's Hall of Fame, a virtual who's who of horror cinema. The Hall includes visionary filmmakers such as Wes Craven, Tim Burton, Dario Argento, and George A. Romero; actors such as Anthony Hopkins, Jamie Lee Curtis, Vincent Price, and Sigourney Weaver; iconic fan favorites such as Bruce Campbell, Doug Bradley, and Robert Englund; and writers such as Clive Barker and Stephen King. Emily joins the Hall as one of its youngest members.
Thanks to all the fans who took the time to vote for Emily. Your support has led to tangible results time and time again, and is greatly appreciated. Again, thank you very much!
